Sega Megadrive Merry Christmas 2014 Gift for Kids Homebrew

Sega Megadrive Merry Christmas 2014 Gift for Kids

Home brew The Sega Megadrive Merry Christmas 2014 homebrew project is a nostalgic journey that combines retro gaming with modern creativity. By upgrading a knock-off Sega console, I transformed a basic gaming device into a treasure trove of classic games that delighted kids and adults alike. The original console featured a modest EN29LV800 chip with just four simple games created by RED KID. After desoldering the chip, I replaced it with an EN29LV640, which allowed for 64 Megabits of data storage—significantly enhancing the gaming experience. With careful hex editing, I replaced the basic games with beloved titles such as Battletoads, Rambo 3, and a collection of classics like Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Hang-On, The Revenge of Shinobi, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and Columns.

This project was a two-week adventure filled with challenges and rewards, igniting a passion for gaming development. In 2014, this homemade console brought joy and excitement, proving that retro gaming could still captivate audiences. The upgraded console played all EU, AUS, Japan, and US cartridges, making it versatile and fun. Although knock-off versions with hundreds of games are now widely available, this homebrew project stands out as a labor of love, showcasing creativity and technical skill. I got a question if I have made a console. Partially i got a knock off Sega and just replaced the rom chip for a bigger size. Original was a EN29LV800 - 8 Megabit 1024K x 8-bit / 512K x 16-bit Flash Memory I desoldered th I got a question if I have made a console. Partially i got a knock off Sega and just replaced the rom chip for a bigger size. Original was a EN29LV800 - 8 Megabit 1024K x 8-bit / 512K x 16-bit Flash Memory I desoldered the Chip, it was software made by RED KID with 4 really basic games. In Hexadecimal code I changed the game roms for EN29LV640 64 Megabit (4M x 16-bit ) CMOS 3.0 Volt to make a prototype board, flashed the memory with improved games. And Load it with - Battletoads - Rambo3 - Best of 6 Games - Sonic The Hedgehog - Super Hang On - The Revenge of Shinobi - Golden Axe - Streets of rage - Columns These days you can still buy the knock off version and cartridge with 196 games. But in 2014 it was fun and challenging to crunch the hexadecimal code and do a console with better games for kids. It took about 2 weeks, a lot of fun with that project. Sorry for the picture quality there was an onboard video decoder built in that i was not able to replace for a high quality video decoder :-) The good thing was it played all EU, AUS, Japan and US cartridges. Enjoy!
